New Delhi – Usually, a doctor’s profession is considered as a noble one, since they work their whole life to mitigate the sufferings of others. People revere doctors and see them as God’s miracle workers on earth, especially when the lives of their loved ones are dependent upon them.

The first day of July month is commemorated as National Doctor’s Day in India. It is celebrated to honour the renowned physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, DR. Bidhan Chandra Roy. This day marks the birth and death anniversary of Dr Roy, who was born on July 1, 1882, and passed away on the same date in 1962.

It was started by the Government of India in the year 1991 to mark respect for the great physician.

“The day is meant to commemorate the medical industry and its advancements. There has been a constant effort by a doctor in improving people’s lives through personalised care in India and this day marks those accomplishments,” cites Dr Vikas Goswami, the Senior Consultant at Max Healthcare & Zeeva Clinic.
