Heart Failure Pipeline Insights and Drugs Report 2022

DelveInsight’s Heart Failure Pipeline Insight, 2022 highlights the details around Heart Failure, a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen. The report provides disease overview, pipeline scenario and therapeutic assessment of the key pipeline therapies in this domain. The report also highlights the unmet needs with respect to the development of Heart Failure.

Heart Failure Overview

Heart Failure — sometimes known as Congestive Heart Failure — is a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen. Heart failure can affect the right or left side of your heart or both at the same time. It can be either an acute (short-term) or chronic (ongoing) condition.

Heart Failure Symptoms

The most common signs and symptoms of heart failure includes:

• Shortness of breath with activity or when lying down

• Fatigue and weakness

• Swollen feet, ankles, lower legs and abdomen (edema).

• Rapid or irregular heartbeat

• Very rapid weight gain from fluid buildup

• Chest pain if heart failure is caused by a heart attack

Heart Failure Risk Factors

The most common risk factors for heart failure include coronary artery disease, heart attack, heart valve disease, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, congenital heart disease, diabetes, alcohol use, sleep apnea, some medications, smoking or using tobacco, and obesity.

Heart Failure Causes

Heart failure is most often related to another condition. The most common cause of heart failure is coronary artery disease (CAD), a disorder that causes narrowing of the arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the heart. There are other conditions that may increase the risk for developing heart failure. Heart failure develops when the heart, via an abnormality of cardiac function (detectable or not), fails to pump blood at a rate commensurate with the requirements of the metabolizing tissues or is able to do so only with an elevated diastolic filling pressure.

Heart Failure Diagnosis

The diagnosis of Heart Failure is based on the medical and family history, a physical exam, and test results. Diagnostic tests include: electrocardiogram, chest X-Ray, echocardiography etc. Echocardiography is the diagnostic standard to confirm systolic or diastolic heart failure through assessment of left ventricular ejection fraction.

Heart Failure Treatment

The treatment of heart failure depends on the severity of the condition. Medication like blood thinners, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, cholesterol-lowering medications, nitrates can be used for the treatment of acute heart failure.
