MCAN Health explains the ideal number of grafts for a good hair transplant

MCAN Health informs the hair transplant candidates about the basics of the graft implantation process and explains the range of ideal numbers of grafts based on different hair transplant methods.

A graft is a single follicular unit that has one to four hair roots. During a hair transplant, grafts are extracted from the donor areas and transplanted into the balding areas. In hair transplant operations, the most crucial aspect for a good result is the ideal number of grafts.

The number of grafts needed to cover the balding areas and the number of grafts that can be extracted from the donor area must be considered very carefully to achieve satisfactory hair coverage. Thus, MCAN Health’s Hair Transplant Team indicates:

“Since each hair transplant case is different, so are the needs and severity of hair loss, the grafts needed for a good hair transplant changes from one person to another. But because most people have a tendency to think “the more the merrier”, even if they only need 1000 grafts to cover all the balding areas.”

The limits of graft numbers based on hair transplant methods

MCAN Health explains the ideal range of graft numbers by listing the different hair transplant methods and informing about the maximum number of grafts that each method enables.

– FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Hair Transplant: In an FUE Hair Transplant, each follicular unit is extracted and implemented one by one directly, offering 5000 grafts maximum at a single sitting.

– Sapphire Hair Transplant: Sapphire Hair Transplant uses the same technique as FUE with one difference which is the type of the blades used. While steel blades are used in FUE, in Sapphire Hair Transplant sapphire blades are used. The maximum number of grafts to be extracted and implemented is around 5000 grafts.

– DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) Hair Transplant: DHI is performed by using a special DHI Pen. DHI Hair Transplant does not require a canal opening phase as the extracted grafts are directly implanted into the recipient area by using the CHOI pen. Depending on the suitability of the donor area, at a single sitting, up to 2500 and 3000 grafts may be implemented without harming the donor area.

MCAN Health’s Hair Transplant Team warns the hair transplant candidates about the pitfalls of the industry by noting:

“If a hair transplant candidate is offered more than 3000 grafts for a DHI session or more than 5000 for FUE and Sapphire Hair Transplant, it is best to question the authenticity of this information.”

It should be noted that hair transplant is a medical procedure. Thus, an extensive research and questioning period must be followed during the decision-making process.
