Announcing the Launch of StrawSave, for Ethically Made, Reusable Bamboo & Metal Straws
Palo Alto, California – StrawSave is pleased to announce the launch of its new platform created to help in the fight against pollution with reusable bamboo and metal straws. On a mission to put an end to the 500 million plastic straws polluting the earth every single day, the company works with fairly-paid Indonesian bamboo farmers in the mountainous Java region to produce handmade, reusable, biodegradable bamboo straws that can be used safely for months in place of plastic straws.
Founder Khalid Hamadeh says that he and his team are passionate about their cause.
“Single use plastic straws are having a devastating effect on our oceans and marine life,” says Hamadeh. “In addition, most reusable straws today are made in large factories that emit considerable amounts of greenhouse gas during production. Law makers and businesses are slowly catching on to the fact that something should be done, but it’s not happening fast enough and we need to be pro-active.”
Hamadeh explains that StrawSave straws are hand-made by local villagers in a remote part of Java, Indonesia:
“They do it all by hand, from the bamboo harvesting and cleaning, to the straw crafting and engraving. Bamboo farming and straw crafting is an essential source of income for these villagers and their families, and we make sure they’re paid fairly for the work they do.”
Additionally, StrawSave is partnering with OneTreePlanted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation, and will plant one tree for every customer purchase.
“We want our efforts to have a larger environmental impact beyond just putting an end to the use of single-use plastic straws,” adds Hamadeh.
