Cardone Capital Weighs in on the Rent-or-Buy Debate
Do you think you should own a home or rent? Grant Cardone of Cardone Capital offers his advice.

Aventura, FL – New York Times bestselling author and internationally renowned speaker on leadership, real estate investing, entrepreneurship, social media, and finance, Grant Cardone has become a valuable resource for anyone seeking insights on matters involving real estate. As a real estate investor, he is the founder of Cardone Capital, a private equity firm offers funding opportunities to everyday investors in overlooked markets. And when it comes to the much argued debate over whether it’s better to rent or buy your own home, Cardone has some invaluable advice to offer.

“Most people have been fooled into thinking that their primary goal in life should be to buy their own home. The idea that home ownership is a way to ensure a financially secure retirement seems to be ingrained. Nothing could be further from the truth, and in fact I believe that buying your own home is possibly the worst investment you could make.”

According to Cardone, a home is not an investment because it doesn’t pay you every month. Owning a home has unrecoverable costs that most people don’t think about, such as property tax, maintenance costs, and the cost of capital.

“When you take out a mortgage, you are paying interest, and a lot of it. You’re actually making the banks even richer than they already are. A house is a liability, not an asset. Renting isn’t throwing money away – you’re getting a place to live. A place that you can leave whenever you want, giving you the flexibility to move around as you see fit.

“Invest what money you have in yourself or your business. Become better at your job, or improve your skill set. Your money needs to work for you, not the other way around. But don’t concentrate on your savings; figure out the best way to increase your income.”

Cardone suggests that people should only think about investing once they have enough money to do so. But investing in a house doesn’t make anyone rich; it’s important to look for an investment that doesn’t cost money, such as real estate investment.

Cardone Capital has over 30 years of experience with income-producing housing in high-growth markets. It provides an easy investment process for everyday investors since the company finds the deals, negotiates the purchase and financing, and closes the transaction. Investors get paid on a monthly basis and start to see a cash flow within 30 to 90 days.

“Put your money to work for you, rather than watching it sink into oblivion through home ownership. Multifamily real estate investing is the way to financial prosperity.”
