Compton Tech Week Seeks to Bridge The Diversity Gap and Spark The Imaginations of Underserved Youth

Compton, California – 3rd District councilwoman, iTouchUp, Inc and Hacker Fund will team up to host Compton’s first Tech Week event entitled “Bridging the Digital Divide” from August 12-16 from 9 AM till 3 PM daily at the Douglas Dollarhide Community Center located at 301 North Tamarind Avenue in Compton California 90220.  This exciting STEAM centered event is a brainchild created by iTouchUp founder and CEO Caryn Brandon.

The purpose of the event is to shine a light on innovative and lucrative career opportunities available in tech fields that most disadvantaged youth may not be aware of. “Bridging the Digital Divide” is an event open to and designed for local middle school, high school and college youth in need of a level playing field to pursue careers in coding and tech. The event will also serve to expand programming opportunities for underserved youth in Los Angeles County.

This exciting event will kick off with an exclusive reception for County and State dignitaries, local city representatives and tech company executives. The reception will focus on resolutions for the disparity in tech industries with regard to employment and education pursuits.

“I am so excited to partner up with iTouch Up, Inc. and Hacker Fund on this first ever event. So much information that will be provided to our children and community!” – 3rd District Councilwoman of Compton, Tana McCoy

Organizers plan for this to be the first of three annual yearly events that iTouchUp, Inc. will host in various cities in underserved communities in California. The ultimate hope is to expand the scale and incorporate an Esports tournament at each event. iTouchup is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that specializes in providing aggressive computer science, business development and career training to extremely disadvantaged youth, ages 16-24.  Compton Tech Week will showcase the curriculum that iTouchUp and Hacker Fund facilitate for their partner and individual organizations.
